Words from THE Founder
Simone (they/them) is a nonbinary femme born in the Bronx. They self identify as a connector and change agent. The concept of OAAARS took shape during a vision board gathering with friends in response to the silence surrounding equity and justice in the workplace. Simone was motivated by the weariness of facing the additional challenge of maintaining psychological safety at work. Simultaneously, they were active as a community organizer in New York City and recognized the need for better compensated opportunities for activists and organizers on the front lines, individuals possessing the expertise to drive change in both community and workplace settings. As a result, they bridged these two realms, giving rise to OAAARS. With this vibrant community, Simone envisions many more transformative ideas for the future.
Our Story
what we Value
Equity
This initiative is rooted in a commitment to EQUITY. We firmly believe that BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color) should have workplaces that prioritize their humanity, advocate for social justice, and recognize, listen to, and respect their identities.
social justice
At OAAARS, we advocate for moving beyond DEI (Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion) and placing a central focus on Social Justice and Anti-Racism in our efforts. Guided by agents of change on the front lines, we envision Professional Development as a means to promote social justice, equity, and wellness.
centering marginalized voices
At OAAARS, we hold the belief that individuals most profoundly affected by oppressive systems are in proximity to effective solutions, and therefore, their voices should take precedence. Our approach is centered on those often marginalized, with a commitment to transformation rather than mere performance.
